Neck, Shoulders and Back Pain

Neck, Shoulders, Back Pain

When people feel some sort of discomfort or pain, they usually resort to popping some pills, and then go back to doing their regular activities. While these may be effective for many people, it, however, can eventually cause side effects.

The body is interconnected, tension from one area can create problems in other muscles. For example, tension in the little toe can create tension in the whole body. Often, trying to target and treat only the location of the pain does not relieve the tension in the surrounding muscle groups. This is particularly true when treating pain in the neck and shoulders. All of the muscles in the region need to be addressed.

Our body is integrated by a series of channels/meridians. The location of pain and stiff muscles often follows the course of a specific channel. Targeting powerful acupuncture points on that channel will move the stagnation that is causing the pain.

More on Back Pain

Acupuncture is an effective alternative to conventional therapies for the treatment of back pain caused by overstretching of back ligaments (sprains), back muscle rips or tears (strains), herniated discs, sciatica, and spinal osteoarthritis. Acupuncture increases the release of pain-suppressing spinal cord nerve neurotransmitters and endorphins (natural pain-killers) into the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord), reducing back pain. Acute pain may clear up in a few sessions. Underlying deficiencies or chronic back pain conditions require more treatments as needed.

Acupuncture therapy is most effective with frequent initial sessions followed by weekly treatments as back pain diminishes. Chinese herbal medicine may be prescribed to reduce inflammation
